This course is an introduction to the basic principles of accounting. Throughout the course students will work with two types of business—a Service Business organized as a Proprietorship, and a Merchandising Business organized as a Corporation. Each type of business will be presented in a complete accounting cycle covering and analyzing transactions, journalizing, posting, petty cash, financial statements, and adjusting and closing entries. Accounting concepts will be introduced using current business examples and computerized problems will be integrated to complete the accounting cycle.
This course, as well as Advanced Accounting, is strongly recommended for students planning on pursuing a career in any business-related area or in applying the principles in their personal finance activities. By receiving a minimum grade of a “B”, students will also receive Advanced Standing at Gateway Technical College.

Personal Finance is a course designed to help students understand the impact of individual choices on occupational goals and future earnings potential. Real world topics covered will include income, money management, spending and credit, as well as saving and investing. Students will design personal and household budgets? simulate use of checking and saving accounts? demonstrate knowledge of finance, debt, and credit management? and evaluate and understand insurance and taxes. This course will provide a foundational understanding for making informed personal financial decisions. Whether you decide to go to a 4-year university, 2-year technical college, or straight into the workforce after high school, you will be able to use information from this class to help you build a successful financial future.

Advanced Accounting

This course is designed to be a continuation of Accounting. Emphasis is on analysis, interpretation and synthesis of managerial problems using accounting information as a tool. Students will work with computerized simulations, partnerships, and corporate accounting. By receiving a minimum grade of a “B”, students will also receive Advanced Standing at Gateway Technical College.

This course is designed to familiarize students with the creation and management of web pages and web sites. In this class, students will learn how to create web pages that will attract and hold the viewer's interest. Dreamweaver CS6 will be used to create, format, illustrate, design and edit Web pages. Introductory image creation and alteration will also be introduced using Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Flash CS6. You will also utilize Web 2.0 tools during this course.

The purpose of this course is to offer students an overview of Microsoft Office 2013. Applications that will be studied include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. By taking this course, students will be better prepared for the MOS Expert Certification which will be offered through the Advanced Microsoft Office class.
This course is recommended for ALL students, including those entering the job market after high school and those pursuing post-secondary educational opportunities. By receiving a minimum grade of a “B”, students will also receive Advanced Standing and Transcripted Credit at Gateway Technical College.

The purpose of this course is to offer students advanced applications in the Microsoft Office Suite. Students will work towards their MOS Certifications in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. In addition, students will be introduced to Skydrive and OneNote. This course is recommended for ALL students, including those entering the job market after high school and those pursuing post-secondary educational opportunities. By receiving a minimum grade of a “B”, students will also receive Advanced Standing at Gateway Technical College.

Introduction to Business

Students will study and define the development of this year’s yearbook. The parts and purposes of the book are designed specific to this year’s book. Students will study legal issues, layout and design concepts, copy and caption writing, photo imaging, proofreading, and current technology. Software programs utilized will include Adobe InDesign CS6 and Photoshop CS6.

This course is designed to introduce the student to the principles and functions of business. The various functional areas of business will be discussed: forms of business ownership, small business/entrepreneurship, management, human relations, marketing, international business, and the stock market. Students will also be exposed to various careers in business. There will be hands-on activities, field trips, guest speakers and case studies during this course. In addition, students will participate in various business simulations.
