We had a successful first week of school! It was great to see students back in the building, and there was lots of learning happening in classrooms! 

At our grade-level meetings this week, we talked about how we control what type of school we want to have. Students made a commitment to themselves to do one thing this year that requires their effort. Some chose being on time, others being nice, and others staying positive. Ask your student what their commitment was and how they're going to keep that commitment. 

We also talked about how important the middle school years are and that they have the power to build the brain they want to have for the rest of their lives. And, that where their time and focus goes is what grows strong. 

As we get into the swing of the school year, we have some exciting events coming up. Especially, keep an eye out for communication about Homecoming (week of September 21st-25th).

Welcome back, families! We're thrilled to begin a new year of reading, writing, and discovery in ELA. 

Our 6th graders will open the year with Boy: Tales of Childhood, Roald Dahl's funny and vivid memoir of his own childhood and school days — a great entry point for exploring how writers shape real experiences into memorable storytelling. 

Our 7th graders will dive into Red Scarf Girl, Ji-li Jiang's powerful memoir of growing up during China's Cultural Revolution, which sparks rich conversation about identity, family, and hard choices. 

And our 8th graders will begin with Perspectives & Narrative, studying how point of view shapes a story while strengthening their own narrative writing. 

We can't wait to get started — here's to a wonderful year ahead!
