Little Prairie Primary School, January 2026 Newlsletter

Lindsey Harris

A note from Mrs. Harris

Dear Little Prairie families,

I hope this newsletter finds you enjoying your Holidays. It’s hard to believe that the new calendar year is upon us and we are already preparing to be into the month of January. New years are always an exciting time!

As we approach the middle of the school year, all students 5K-2nd grade will participate in an assessment of early literacy skills. Administration of this literacy screening tool is a state requirement, and measures children’s knowledge of important literacy fundamentals. We will also utilize a tool that will gauge student’s skills in early math concepts. Students will take part in these assessments within the course of their regular day during the months of January and early February. Results will be used to guide teachers in the development of instructional activities and practices and will allow us to better address individual student needs. If you have any further questions regarding assessments, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

As we return after some time off, please ensure that your kids are to school on time. Prior to break, we noticed an increase in the number of cars still in the drop-off line at 7:50 and after. Students should be in the door and down to their classrooms by the time the bell rings at 7:50. Thanks for all you do to help your children be successful in school. We appreciate your support!

Focused on growth for all students,
Lindsey Harris, Principal

PBIS - January is EMPATHY month

  • We earned our school-wide reward -- holiday story and stuffie day!

  • Just a friendly reminder about completing a bucket drop and sending it to school when you catch your child showing “bucket filling” behavior at home. You can find more bucket drop sheets here.

  • We are working towards our next school-wide reward of “Winter Bingo.”

  • Later this month we will spend some time reviewing/re-teaching our school-wide expectations (being: respectful, responsible, safe, and caring) in the various school locations (classroom, playground, bus, cafeteria, hallway, bathroom, etc.).

Accidents happen! Please make sure your child has a complete change of clothes in their backpack/cubby!
Lost & Found: Please encourage your child to check the lost and found for missing sweatshirts, water bottles, gloves, hats, etc.
Students should wear tennis shoes on gym days!
No School Monday, January 19th for teacher's in service day
Winter is here! Students should be prepared with snowpants, boots, hats, gloves & coats to play at recess. Students will go outside daily unless temperature falls below 0 with windchill.

January Reading Calendar

Annual All School Read Begins Jan 20th!

The title will be kept secret from students until then, so they can be surprised together. On that day, the youngest child in your family who attends school will bring the book home for your whole family to engage in reading together, each day/night!

#EastTroyReads is sponsored by our Elementary PTO!

The last several years we have participated in this event, our students have truly looked forward to coming into school all having read the same thing the night before.
We hope your family plans to participate with us!

A few fun facts about #EastTroyReads:

  1. Our principals hold a trivia game on the morning announcements! They ask a question regarding the chapter from the previous night.  It’s like having our own radio show. The students enjoy the fun of a traveling trophy!
  2. Starting January 20th, check out our website where you can find staff reading chapters by the week!
  3. There are also optional activities & family discussion questions on the website, if you’d like to take your reading further. Talking together is a great way to expand thinking and increase vocabulary!

       Visit: https://easttroyreads2026.weebly.com/

Our website will go live on January 20th…until then, it remains a surprise!
Show the spirit of literacy in your home! Send your pictures to ledjen@easttroy.k12.wi.us, and Mrs. Ledin will post them to our website, listed above.
