Supporting Student Success

Family engagement is one of the most important factors in helping students succeed in school. Parents, families, and other caring adults provide the first learning experiences for children and can support classroom learning throughout their children's school years.

Attendance

Attendance Clipart

Parents should call the school office at 262-642-6720 x 3221 before 8:00 am if your child will be absent. If leaving a message, please include your name, your child’s name, and the reason for the absence. If your child will be arriving late, please also let us know approximately what time your child will be arriving.

Daily attendance is an important aspect of academic achievement. Additionally, arriving on-time to school and ready to learn is also a critical variable toward academic success. When students arrive late to school, students/parents are expected to sign in at the front office. Students will record their tardy through our Skyward kiosk.  This kiosk will document the student's tardiness and be recorded as UNEXCUSED.  It is the parents responsibility to provide additional information on the day of the tardy that would allow our attendance officers to change the unexcused tardy to excused.  For example, a medical appointment or family emergency may be changed to an excused tardy or absence. Excessive unexcused tardies will result in written notification by the school district and may result in a truancy citation.

Prairie View Elementary School uses the school notification system SchoolMessenger for attendance calls. The families of students whose absences have not been verified by 8:00 am with a parent/guardian, will receive an automated phone call placed to primary phone and parent/guardian cell phone numbers listed in Skyward-Skylert.

Pre-arranged absence forms are available if you know your child will be absent in advance. .  The necessary permission and signature(s) are to be obtained and turned into the office at least 72 hours prior to proposed absence.  If you have pre-arranged your child's absence, it is not necessary to call the office.

Attendance and truancy policies are available in the Student Informational Book.

Progress Reports

Report Card Clipart

Progress reports are posted in Family Access following each trimester.  Our standards-based progress report gives you information about how your child is progressing toward meeting the district's standards during the course of the school year in each class.

Standards specify what all students should know and be able to do.

  • Your child’s performance is measured against the standard, rather than simply being compared to other students in his or her class.
  • It gives every child the opportunity to meet or exceed our district’s standards.
  • It gives you a more detailed and honest assessment of how your child is progressing academically.
  • Behavior is reported out separately and is as important as the academic report, as they are the habits that students will need to be successful in high school and beyond.

Each indicator shows progress towards each specific learning targets for each course.

  • C- Consistently meeting grade level or IEP expectations
  • P- Making progress toward meeting grade level or IEP expectations
  • N- Needing support to meet grade level or IEP expectations

Transportation Policy

Bus Clipart

Alternate afternoon busing changes are ONLY allowed for emergencies or regular babysitting arrangements.  Because so many of our buses are near capacity, all special requests will be limited. Requests for changes to a student's after school destination must be made to the school office in writing or by phone before 12:00 pm. Transportation Policy: 443.2

Outdoor Recess

There will be no outdoor recess when the temperature is below zero, the wind chill is below zero or it is raining, drizzling or misting.

All students are encouraged to participate in outdoor recess unless medical conditions prohibit them from doing so.  If a child is physically unable to go outside for recess for more than five days, a note from the physician in charge will be needed.

Parking at PV

Please be sure to utilize the north parking lot for all events and pick up and always use the crosswalk to ensure safety!  If visiting during the school day, enter through main doors.  All other times, enter through door #6.
